Antique French Ironstone Transferware French Blue Plate / Soup Bowl
I hunt hard for 19th-century French transferware and exclaim with glee when I find something in my favorite color palette. I love the French blues and greens. These pieces get their beauty from a centuries-old technique where an inked design is pressed onto its glazed surface.
Being that they were used for everyday living, they often have imperfections and crazing to the glaze. You’ll find a wonderful patina over the whole of the plate or bowl. If there wasn’t, it wouldn’t be original. You have to love the worn quality of these simple French dishes.
I have two shallow soup bowls that can also serve as plates and two plates sold separately. Each has a different scene: birds, flowers, and landscapes. Please look at the photos closely for imperfections.
The price is per piece with 4 available. They all work beautifully together.
French Blue Daisies: Dinner plate. Beautiful blue/grey color and marked “Luneville.” There is a chip on the underside of its rim. While it would not be noticeable if displayed or used as a table setting, it must be noted.
9 1/4 inches (23.5 cm)
Swallows with Nests: Shallow soup bowl. Soft French blue color. Crazing to the original glaze. Marked “Linotte Depose Terre de Fer.”
9 1/4 inches (23.5 cm)
Three Birds on a Branch: Shallow soup bowl. Darker French blue color. The transfer is slightly blurred on close inspection but no damage to the piece. Marked “Fauvette B.F.K. Terre de Fer.”
9 1/4 inches (23.5 cm)
Sailboat on the Lake: Dinner plate. Green / Blue color. Imperfections to the original glaze. No chips to the rim. Marked “Marine.”
