19th-Century French Drawing Loire Valley - "Grand House with a Tower"
I walked into a small brocante shop in Amboise, France. It was disorganized, yet filled with wonderful French antiques. You had to look carefully to see through the mix of things. And there they were: A small stack of sketchbooks from the nineteenth century. I flipped through page by page looking at the artist’s work. One set of drawings was dedicated to the châteaux in the Loire Valley. Another book contained pencil drawings of local farmhouses and animals. Two sketchbooks were tiny enough to tuck into a pocket and pulled out to capture quick, spontaneous images.
Each drawing is a one-of-a-kind original. Most are dated. Some are more than 150 years old so the paper is aged but not torn or ripped. I would suggest a careful acid-free and archival matting and framing. You want them to last another 150 years.
