Antique French Ironstone Rillettes Jar
Antique French Ironstone Rillettes Jar
Who doesn’t adore ironstone jars with a story? This is an antique black & white “rillettes de cours” jar in white ironstone made by the Sarreguemines pottery. Since the early 19th century, Sarreguemines provided the world with a vast collection of earthenware pieces. This jar originally held a meat spread that is still enjoyed here in France. (I archived a recipe for rillettes under Weekly Voilàs.)
This crock can serve so many purposes, such as holding your teaspoons next to your coffee maker, or paint brushes in your studio, or just displaying it in a place of prominence at the front of your ironstone collection.
It’s in excellent vintage condition with no cracks or chips. There is a lovely ever-so-slight grey glaze with a wonderful patina showcasing the piece’s age and authenticity. These types of everyday jars are harder and harder to find. Treat yourself to this one. (And if you would like to add a companion, I do have one more small jar under a separate listing in Le Shop.)
3 inches (7.5 cm) at its widest diameter
4 inches (9.5 cm) tall
